STRONGER TOGETHER

Collaborating across the floodplain for long-term resilience

The Lower Fraser Floodplains Coalition brings communities and experts together, working alongside the First Nations led Emergency Planning Secretariat, to strengthen flood resilience across the region through collaboration and respect for natural systems.

The Cost of Inaction

Across the Lower Fraser floodplain, flood risk is increasing faster than our current systems are adapting. Aging infrastructure, fragmented governance, and long standing land use patterns leave communities, farms, and critical transportation corridors exposed. Without coordinated, floodplain wide action, the social, economic, and environmental costs of the next major flood will far exceed the cost of preparing now.

Is the Lower Fraser region ready for the next major flooding event?

The Region as One

Managing flood risk requires working across the entire floodplain. The Lower Fraser Floodplains Coalition works region-wide to connect people, projects, and decisions that affect flood resilience. We collaborate on regional studies and initiatives, convene webinars and in-person gatherings, and support local flood resilience projects by helping partners access funding, share technical knowledge, and align efforts across jurisdictions.

LFFC brings together Lower Fraser First Nations, local governments, provincial agencies, and partners such as farming and industry groups to build relationships, share knowledge, and identify opportunities for collaboration. Our work supports the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and recognizes the inherent authority of Lower Fraser First Nations within their territories.
